Copy to Agent for Jira

Copy to Agent formats Jira issue context into a reviewable Markdown bundle that you can paste into coding agents and AI assistants.

Who this is for

The app is for Jira Cloud teams that use AI coding agents and want a faster way to give those agents the issue details, discussion, relationships, and planning context needed to start useful work.

How to use it

  1. 01
    Open a Jira issue

Navigate to the Jira issue you want to hand off to a coding agent.

  2. 02
    Open Copy to Agent

Use the Agent Context panel or choose Copy for Agent from the issue action menu.

  3. 03
    Review the generated Markdown

Check the issue summary, description, comments, relationships, planning fields, and attachment metadata before copying.

  4. 04
    Paste into your agent

Copy the bundle into ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, Codex, or another tool your organization allows.

What gets included

  • Issue key, summary, type, status, priority, assignee, reporter, and project metadata
  • Description converted from Atlassian Document Format into practical Markdown
  • Comments available to the current Jira user
  • Parent, subtasks, linked issue metadata, labels, components, versions, and fix versions
  • Due date, created date, updated date, and time tracking metadata when available
  • Attachment names, metadata, and Jira attachment URLs

Privacy and permissions

Copy to Agent uses the current Jira user's access through Atlassian Forge bridge APIs. The app uses the read-onlyread:jira-work scope, does not use Forge storage, does not use a vendor backend, and does not send issue content to an AI provider.

Current limitations

  • Attachment file contents are not copied.
  • Attachment URLs may still require Jira authentication.
  • Custom fields are not included in the current version.
  • The Markdown conversion is practical, not a perfect reproduction of every Jira rich-text feature.
  • The app does not write generated agent output back to Jira.

Troubleshooting

If the app cannot load issue context, confirm that the user can view the issue in Jira, then reopen the Agent Context panel or the Copy for Agent action. If the problem continues, contact support.
